(What is Status of Residence?）在留資格とは

A status of residence is "a legal status granted to a foreign national for the purpose or reason of living in Japan.

The Minister of Justice (actually, the Immigration and Residence Management Agency) issues a status of residence to each foreign national with a specific type and validity period.

By obtaining the status of residence that best suits your purpose, you can stay in Japan for the permitted period of stay.

There are a total of 29 types of status of residence, including those that do not allow you to work and those that do allow you to work.

A status of residence is sometimes referred to as a "visa," but essentially a visa and a status of residence are two different things. A visa is used at the time of landing examination and is officially called a "visa. A visa is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to foreign nationals abroad to request permission to enter Japan. Visas are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and are invalid once the immigration inspection has been completed.

There are various types of visa statuses, of which those that allow work are called "work visas.

Among the work visas, I would like to introduce my specialty, "Business Management Visa," in the next issue.

在留資格とは、「外国人が日本に在留する目的や理由のために与えられる法的地位」のことです。

在留資格は、法務大臣（実際には入国在留管理庁）が外国人一人一人に種類と有効期間を定めて交付します。

自分の目的に合った在留資格を取得することで、許可された在留期間だけ日本に滞在することができます。

在留資格には、就労できないもの、就労できるものなど全部で29種類あります。

在留資格は「ビザ」と呼ばれることもありますが、本来は「ビザ」と「在留資格」は別のものです。ビザは上陸審査時に使用するもので、正式には「査証（ビザ）」といいます。ビザは日本の外務省が、外国にいる外国人に日本への入国許可を求めて発行するものです。ビザは外務省が発行するもので、入国審査が終わると無効になります。

在留資格には様々な種類があり、その中でも就労が可能なものを「就労ビザ」と呼びます。

就労ビザの中でも、私の専門である「経営管理ビザ」について、次回は紹介したいと思います。
